Lauren has had many opportunities to ride her bike recently thanks to the warm weather. One day, Jason took her out and she rode over a mile, which is not bad for a three year old! I love all this bike riding since it makes her ready for bed at 7pm. The other day she asked to ride her bike to the playground in the subdivision next to ours. I was a little concerned because it meant riding up a steep hill, but she did great, riding three-quarters of the way up, then pushing her bike up the rest of the way. When we made it to the next subdivision, she got on her bike and took off. Even though the hill she was riding down wasn't nearly as steep as the one we'd just come up, it became obvious very quickly that it was too steep for her skills. Picture this, Lauren flying down a hill, me running behind pushing Emily in her little car, trying to catch up, yelling, "Brake, Lauren! Brake!", but Lauren didn't know how to use her brake. About the time I realized Lauren was going to cross a cul-de-sac, the handle I was using to push Emily's car came out. I shoved the handle in, got Emily back on the sidewalk, and noticed a lady and her dog crossing the cul-de sac Lauren was heading toward. I thought maybe the lady would reach out and stop Lauren, but she just jumped over and watched Lauren fly by her screaming, "Mother! Help me, Mother! (She has recently started calling me Mother.) After Lauren crossed the cul-de-sac, she hit the curb and flew off her bike. She wasn't hurt, so I showed her how to use her brake and made her climb back on. Maybe she won't need counseling in the future. On the way home from the playground, we took the long, mostly flat way home. She got scared a couple of times, but we made it home in one piece and then she wrecked crossing into our driveway. It is hard work being three.

Oh goodness I can just see all this going down. I am quite impressed she made it up that big hill. We have got stuck carring the kids bikes up it many times. I am glad she wasn't hurt and got back on her bike.
