This Child

I love this child, but if she gets into any more mischief I may have to go hide in my room for a long, long, time. Today she got into the pantry and when I found her she was standing on a stack of food boxes eating syrup. There was syrup on her hands, on her face, in her hair, on her clothes - just a big syrupy mess. A little later she insisted on coming into the kitchen while I was mopping and as soon I'd mop a section she'd run her dirty little feet across the clean floor. While I was doing laundry she amused herself by hiding under Lauren's comforter, occasionally shouting out "Boo!" and laughing hysterically. Yesterday, I was babysitting for the Ferguson's which is wonderful and insane at the same time because I'm constantly trying to make sure I know of Emily's exact location. Alden and I were working on his poster for school and we both realized Emily had walked away. Alden went one way and I went another, trying to find her before she got into anything. When I found her she was in the bathroom having fun with the toilet water. What is up with this obsession with toilet water? I had closed the bathroom door and the door to the room you have to go through to get to the bathroom, but the Ferguson's house is doing some major settling, so the doors in one part of the house don't catch when you try to close them. As if playing in the Ferguson's toilet wasn't enough, later in the day Emily decided to take off her diaper in the playroom and then go into the kitchen and wet the kitchen floor. Are you seeing a reoccurring theme here? Maybe this means Emily is about ready to potty train. Wouldn't that be wonderful? The only thing keeping me from going crazy right now is knowing that in two weeks Lauren is going to school two mornings a week. This is kind of a last minute thing and should have its own post dedicated to it. Anyway, with Lauren going to school, I can totally focus on Emily and give her some one-on-one time. Nap time is almost over. I wonder what Emily is going to get in to this afternoon.
